Cherry Blossoms, Irises, Autumn Foliage and Yukitsuri of Kenrokuen Garden

"Sakura" (Cherry Blossoms); Early AprilKenrokuen boasts of 420 Sakura trees with 20 varieties; half of these trees are of Someiyoshino variety. During the Hanami season when cherry trees are blossoming, entry to Kenrokuen is made free and the whole garden is illuminated. This light-up creates a unique atmosphere, very different from the day time."Kakitsubata (Wild Iris)"(June)Flowers of Kakitsubata blossoming by the side of Kyokusui* is a beautiful site that gives Kenrokuen a different look from the scenery created by flowers like Sakura or azaleas(about 10,000 stumps and 40,000 flowers).*Literally means "bending water". It's a type of typical Japanese garden landscape with water in a pond or that of streams."Momiji (Autumn foliage)"(Mid-October to late November)The red and yellow colours of the autumn foliage on the trees blend beautifully with the scenery of Kenrokuen and offers to the visitors, one of the finest examples of Japanese gardens' beauty. The most popular spot for viewing Momiji is the area around Kasumi-ga-Ike pond in the center of the Garden. The colors of Momiji on the background of Kotoji Stone Lantern and Karamatsu pine tree truly create an atmosphere with a rich taste."Yukizuri*"(Beginning of November to Late March)Among many things, Kenrokuen is known for its Yukizuri and it's become a symbol of the winters in Kanazawa. The finest example of this is the Yukizuri on the magnificent branch expanse of Karamatsu pine tree.
