Sosogi Coast

Sosogi coast is located about 17 km north-east of Wajma City and is close to the city of Suzu. This 2km famous coastline stretches from Tarumidaki waterfalls to the mouth of Machino river and is designated as 'Scenic Places of Beauty' as well as a 'Natural Monument'. It is famous for its landscape scenery of natural beauty and magnificently rugged cliffs, created through a unique chemistry between sea and the rocks. The coastline is dotted with cliffs and strangely shaped hard rhyolite rocks with complex designs which are caused by the sea erosion. A rock known as Madoiwa (Window Rock) has become a symbol of Sosogi coastline. 'Window Rock', is basically a rhyolite dating back 15 million years (Middle Miocene Period) whichgis has a strange shape with a 2m hole in the middle of it. In the winters, visitors can also enjoy a unique phenomenon called "Wave Flowers".
