A Trip Around Ishikawa’s Historical and Modern Buildings

IIshikawa Prefecture is not just home to a wealth of historical buildings dating back to its Kaga Hyakumangoku (Million Koku) glory days, but many works by noted contemporary architects as well. The course that follows modern buildings by famous architects will take you to designs by noted contemporary architects such as SANAA, who won the Pritzker Architecture Prize for the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Taniguchi Yoshiro, famed for designing the new building for New York’s Museum of Modern Art, who here contributed the D.T. Suzuki Museum and the Katayamazu Onsen Public Bath, or Isozaki Arata, the noted post-modernist who designed the Nakaya Ukichiro Museum of Snow and Ice.
